Does PSA Oxygen Enrichment Increase Oxygen Content or Oxygen Partial Pressure?

PSA oxygen enrichment technology is often used in high-altitude hypoxic environments and is an effective way to address people's hypoxia problems.

Literally, it involves using a PSA oxygen supply system to increase the oxygen content within a fixed space, thereby simulating the oxygen content of lower altitudes to alleviate the physical discomfort caused by high-altitude hypoxia. The core function is to increase the oxygen content in the environment.

However, simply increasing the oxygen content is not the fundamental purpose of oxygen enrichment technology. Instead, while we increase the oxygen content, we also raise the oxygen partial pressure within the area. As the oxygen partial pressure in the environment increases, the discomfort of hypoxia is alleviated. Oxygen partial pressure refers to the pressure formed by oxygen molecules in an air mixture. It, along with the partial pressures of other gases in the air, constitutes the total atmospheric pressure. The oxygen partial pressure in the air is crucial for organisms because it directly affects the oxygen partial pressure in the blood. The level of oxygen partial pressure determines the concentration of oxygen in the blood. If the oxygen partial pressure in the air decreases, then the oxygen partial pressure in the blood will also decrease, which is the fundamental reason why symptoms of hypoxia appear in high-altitude areas.

Many oxygen enrichment manufacturers have recognized this and produced oxygen enrichment products such as diffusion oxygen supply systems and high-altitude micro-pressure oxygen cabins. The former increases the oxygen partial pressure within a fixed environment by raising the oxygen content, while the latter directly increases the gas pressure within a fixed environment to reach the oxygen partial pressure levels of low-altitude areas.

Therefore, the essence of oxygen enrichment is to restore the environmental oxygen partial pressure to a normal range through pressurization or oxygenation, thereby bringing the oxygen partial pressure within the human body to a normal level. Of course, simultaneously increasing both the oxygen content and gas pressure can also solve the problem of high-altitude hypoxia, and using both methods together does not conflict.
